Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also expresses his condolences and expresses deep anguish over the tragic death
HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 01, 2026: A 24-year-old woman, Excise Constable, Gajula Soumya, who was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked by Ganja smugglers in Nizamabad district recently, succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the NIMS in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed profound sorrow on the passing away of Excise Constable Soumya. The Chief Minister was anguished over losing Soumya’s life while performing duties. The CM ordered police officials to take stringent action against those responsible for Soumya’s death. The CM assured all kinds of help from the government to the bereaved family members in the difficult times.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy also stated in his X post that “Deeply anguished by the tragic death of Excise Constable Soumya, who succumbed to her injuries, after being brutally attacked by Ganja smugglers in Nizamabad district. Constable Soumya laid down her life in the line of duty while courageously attempting to stop a drug-laden vehicle. Her sacrifice is a grim reminder of the growing audacity and violence of drug cartels, which today pose a serious threat not only to society at large but even to law enforcement personnel tasked with upholding the rule of law”.
“The increasing prevalence of narcotics and the organised networks behind them in the state reflects the failure of the state government and highlights the urgent need for stronger enforcement, coordinated intelligence, and zero tolerance towards drug trafficking. Attacks on police and excise personnel are an attack on the authority of the state itself and must be dealt with in the strongest possible manner. I call upon the Telangana state government to initiate strong and concerted action against the cartels and the menace. The government of India is committed to extending all necessary support to assist the state agencies in eradicating drug trafficking and dismantling the cartels responsible for such heinous crime”.
