KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 16, 2026: Amid high-tension drama over the past few days, the Bharatiya Janata Party has snatched the coveted Mayor post of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar.
A staunch RSS activist since his school days and ABVP leader and Karimnagar second division municipal corporator Kolagani Srinivas has been elected as the Mayor of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation on Monday.

He secured 34 votes in the elections. Though the party secured 30 seats in the MCK elections, its candidate Srinivas secured 34 votes in the elections with the support of three Independent corporators and one ex officio member’s vote of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Similarly, former mayor Y Sunil Rao was also elected as the Deputy Mayor by securing 34 votes.

The Congress party has proposed the candidature of 11th division corporator Akula Narmada for the Mayor, and MIM candidate Heena Afreen for the Deputy Mayor. Narmada secured 21 votes, andthe MIM candidate secured 22 votes with the support of AIFB and MIM and lost in the elections. Incidentally, the BRS, which had won nine corporators in the elections, remained ‘neutral’ in the elections and did not exercise their franchise in the Mayor elections.
Kolagani Srinivas is the youngest Mayor of MCK, at only 37 years of age, with MBA and MSW qualifications. He played an active role in ABVP as a student leader. He played a crucial role during the outbreak of Covid-19 by supporting the people and providing vaccine.
