NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 06, 2025: In a shocking incident, a bank has rejected a cheque signed by a government school headmaster in the Ronhat, Sirmapur district of Himachal Pradesh state because of spelling mistakes in the amount written in words.
This issue had become viral on social media about the quality of education being provided by the government school teachers in the country, in spite of collecting huge amounts as salaries.
The Government Senior Secondary School principal had signed a cheque for Rs 7,616 with lots of spelling mistakes. The cheque, signed on September 25, 2025, had the correct numbers. But the amount in words was written as: “Saven Thursday six harendra sixty rupees only.
For some, the issue was not the money but the embarrassment. Social media users pointed out that if a senior secondary school principal confused “Thursday” with “Thousand” and “Harendra” with “Hundred,” it raised concerns about what students were learning.
The bank finally rejected the cheque, forcing the school to issue a corrected one. By then, the viral photo had already made a routine payment a nationwide lesson in grammar.
