
KARIMNAGAR, DECEMBER 20, 2025: Vivekananda Residential School (CBSE) in Karimnagar town organised a Consumer Awareness and Rights Programme for the students of Grade IX with the objective of educating them about responsible consumer behaviour and legal rights. The programme aimed to create awareness among students so that they grow into informed, alert, and responsible citizens in their day-to-day lives.
The programme was graced by Mr Prakash Holla, a social worker of Karimnagar and the Chairman of the Karimnagar Consumers’ Council. He is also associated with Loksatta Udyama Samstha and the Lions Charitable Trust Eye Hospital (Rekruthi) and has been actively involved in social service and consumer protection initiatives for several years.
The event was attended by Principal Renuka Balivada and Advisory Committee Member Gandra Laxman Rao, who motivated students to be cautious and responsible consumers. On this occasion, Chairman Dr Sudhakar Rao Polsani and Director Academics Dr T. Lalitha Kumari conveyed their messages, emphasising the need for consumer education from a young age to prevent exploitation and unfair practices.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Prakash Holla spoke on the topic “Consumer Awareness and Rights.” He explained who a consumer is, stating that anyone who purchases goods or avails services becomes a consumer. He elaborated on important consumer rights such as the right to safety, the right to information, the right to choice, and the right to be heard, using simple examples relevant to students.
He also created awareness about digital tools by explaining the purpose and benefits of the UMANG App, which helps citizens access various government services easily. In addition, he informed students about the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) and guided them on how to register complaints in cases of unfair trade practices.
The programme concluded on an informative and inspiring note, empowering students with knowledge and confidence to protect their rights as responsible consumers.
