Glorious journey of Sri Venkateshwara Ved Vijnana Peetham at Dharmagiri
TIRUMALA, APRIL 08, 2026: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has been playing a pioneering role in the preservation, propagation, and promotion of Vedic traditions, which form the foundation of Hindu Sanatana Dharma in the Indian culture.
In this direction, Sri Venkateswara Veda Vijnana Peetham at Dharmagiri in Tirumala has emerged as one of the most prestigious Vedic educational institutions in the country.
History of the Veda Vijnana Peetham
Established in February 1884 under the leadership of Mahant Prayag Das Ji, the institution began as a Veda Patashala with three sections. Over time, it has evolved into a distinguished centre that imparts comprehensive education in Vedas, Agamas, priesthood, and Shastras.
In 1992, it was permanently established at Dharmagiri, Tirumala, and was renamed as “Veda Vijnana Peetham.”

Vedic Education in 17 Departments
At present, the institution operates 17 specialised branches under four major streams:
- 7 Vedic branches under Vedic studies
- 5 Agama disciplines under Agama studies
- 4 divisions under Smartha studies
- Divya Prabandham covering 4000 Pasurams of Alwars
These long-term courses provide deep spiritual knowledge and traditional learning.
Currently, a total of 374 students are enrolled:
- 140 in Vedic courses
- 177 in Prabandha and Agama courses
- 57 in Smartha courses
A dedicated team of 43 scholars imparts education to these students.
Strong Focus on Student Welfare
TTD gives utmost priority to student welfare. The institution provides hostel facilities with a capacity of 540 students, along with clean living conditions, 24 hour water supply, and hot water facilities.
Nutritious meals are provided daily:
- Morning: Milk, idli, dosa, upma
- Afternoon: Rice, dal, curries, sambar, rasam, curd
- Evening: Milk
- Night: Dinner
Additionally, students receive free clothing, books, and essential items such as soap, oil, and toothpaste.
Healthcare services are provided daily through Ashwini Hospital. In case of necessity, free treatment is also extended at SVIMS and BIRRD hospitals in Tirupati.
Securing the Future of Students
To ensure a secure future for students, TTD implements special incentive schemes:
- Rs.3 lakh deposit for Vedic students.
- Rs.1 lakh deposit for students of other courses
Upon course completion, the amount with interest is handed over along with a merit certificate and a 10-gram silver dollar of Sri Venkateswara.
Holistic Education Based on Vedic Practices
The daily routine of students is structured according to Vedic traditions. It includes Sandhyavandanam, Agnikaryam, study sessions, recitation, teaching, physical activities, and night study ensuring a well rounded education system.
National Level Scholarly Conferences
The Sri Venkateswara Veda Shastra Agama Vidwat Sadas attracts scholars from across the country. Traditional examinations are conducted, and meritorious scholars are honored. The latest session was successfully held from March 8 to 13.
Apart from Dharmagiri, TTD successfully operates similar Veda institutions in places like Keesaragutta, Nalgonda, Bhimavaram, Kotappakonda, and Vizianagaram.
