CM Revanth Reddy orders to develop temple-centric ghats for Godavari Pushkaralu

HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 12, 2025: Grand preparations have been started to organise Godavari Pushkalaru, which is being called the ‘South India Kumbh Mela’ with much religious fervour, which begins from July 23, 2027.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed the authorities to make advance arrangements and prepare special plans to provide all facilities to the lakhs of devotees who visit the temples to take a holy dip in Godavari without any inconvenience during the Pushkaralu. The CM emphasised that temple-centric ghats should be constructed at all famous Temples located on the banks of the Godavari in the state. The officials were ordered to visit all the famous temples from Basara to Bhadrachalam along the banks of the river Godavari and finalise the temples for the construction of the permanent ghats. The list of famous temples, including Basara, Kaleshwaram, Dharmapuri and Bhadrachalam, should be prepared and separate project reports should also be prepared before the start of the works.
Each ghat should be developed with all facilities for 2 lakh pilgrims to take a holy dip on a single day, the CM said that the ghat designs should be finalised, reflecting the prominence of the local temples.
CM Revanth Reddy also suggested that temples located near National Highways and state-owned highways should be given priority in developing infrastructure during Pushkaralu. Apart from ghats, roads and other infrastructure facilities will also be developed on a permanent basis.
During the review of the arrangements for the pushkaralu, the officials briefed the CM that pushkar ghats will be developed at 74 places along the banks of Godavari on a 560 km stretch from the entry point of Telangana – Maharashtra. The Chief Minister stressed that the works should be completed at a fast pace during the 23 months before the start of the pushkaralu. Steps should also be taken to expand the existing ghats and take up road development and other facilities on a permanent basis. Roads and highways should be developed for free flow of traffic, vehicle parking, drinking water facility, bathing Ghats, and all the necessary accommodation facilities for the devotees should be developed.
The CM ordered the officials to hold meetings with Temple Committees and prepare plans for the necessary arrangements. Consultancies with rich experience in the development of Pushkaralu, temples and facilities required for devotees in various states in the past, along with the Maha Kumbh Mela, should also be appointed to develop facilities for Godavari Pushkaralu.
The Chief Minister also suggested that the Central Government-sponsored schemes should be utilized for the arrangements of Pushkaralu. The CM instructed the officials to identify the works under the central schemes, including Swachh Bharat. Jal Jeevan Mission and take the necessary permissions for them. A list of these works should be prepared so that a special package can be sought from the Central Government, keeping in mind the rush of devotees coming to the South Indian Kumbh Mela. The CM instructed the officials of the state Tourism, Irrigation and Endowment Departments to work in coordination for the completion of ghats and other works.
