Constitute Multipurpose PACS without affecting the existing PACS: CGM
Bring back FPOs, other cooperatives such as dairy, fisheries etc into the Karimnagar DCCB fold
He also informed the PACS to set up drones so that farmers can hire them for spraying pesticides and fertilisers
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 13, 2025: NABARD Telangana regional officer Chief General Manager B Uday Bhaskar has advised the Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank (KDCCB) to encourage horticulture and other profit-yielding crops among the farming community instead of encouraging only paddy cultivation in the integrated Karimnagar district.
Stating that the integrated Karimnagar district has abundant water sources, forcing the farmers to go in for only paddy cultivation, albeit the lazy man’s crop, the NABARD CGM said that the continuous paddy cultivation would force a decline in production due to soil degradation due to excessive use of fertilisers and chemicals.
It is time for the farmers to diversify their cropping patterns to reap riches instead of solely relying on paddy cultivation, he said and appealed to the KDCCB, which is a role model in the diversification of business activities, to encourage farmers to diversify the cultivation patterns by taking up horticulture, oil palm, vegetables etc.
The NABARD CGM visited the Karimnagar DCCB main office in Karimnagar town on Friday and participated in the Board of Directors meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Uday Bhaskar informed the KDCCB to encourage the constitution of new Multipurpose PACSs without affecting the functioning of existing PACS. He said that the formation of a total of 198 new PACSs in the Telangana state, including 29 PACS from Karimnagar district, was carved out and submitted the proposal to the RCS for clearance from the state government.
Recollecting the slogan of International year of Cooperatives by United Nations which says ‘Cooperation among cooperatives’, the CGM said that the KDCCB should take measures to bring back the farmers associated with dairy, fisheries and other cooperatives into their fold by opening accounts in DCCB as majority of them were having accounts in several private banks. He also informed the bank to bring back FPOs into the bank fold by providing financial support and by opening accounts.
Stating that the Karimnagar DCCB is a role model in the country for its diversified business activities along with core agricultural lending, he said that the KDCCB had emerged successfully because of no political interference and transparent administration and use of technology. He also suggested that all other DCCBs follow the footsteps of Karimnagar by not involving politics in the functioning of the cooperative bank.
He also advised the PACS to set up drones for the benefit of farmers, as in the future, it is only the drones which will spray pesticides, fertilisers and seeds to ease the work of the farmers. He also assured all assistance to the DCCBs from NABARD.
Karimnagar DCCB and NAFSCOB chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao urged the NABARD CGM to take measures for the opening of more DCCB branches in the integrated Karimnagar district. Stating that they set a target of setting up 100 branches, he said that they had opened only 71 branches following the restrictions by the RBI. He said that the more branches would help the DCCB to increase its business activities.
Referring to the suggestion made by NABARD CGM to increase production of green energy, Mr Ravinder Rao urged the NABARD to increase the relaxation from the existing Rs 60 lakhs to Rs 2 crore to provide loans for setting up solar power plants.
Explaining about the steady growth of Karimnagar DCCB under the leadership of its chairman, CEO N Satyanarayana Rao, said that the bank had set a target of doing a business of Rs 9,500 crore during this financial year and added they had done a business of Rs 7,300 crore during the last fiscal. The Board of Directors, bank general managers, DGMs and AGMs were also present.
