KARIMNAGAR, JULY 02, 2024: A major broke out at the Union Bank of India (UBI) RTC bus station branch in front of the Karimnagar bus station complex on Monday late night. Some records, furniture and computers were gutted in the fire.
Police sources said that the bank staff, who usually work till 7 pm, were forced to work till 10.30 pm to complete the pending works due to technical problems. The staff left the bank after closing down the shutters of the bank. At around 11.30 pm, the people at the RTC bus station complex noticed thick flames coming out of the UBI and alerted the police and fire services personnel.
The Fire tenders from Karimnagar and Manakondur rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. The police and fire services broke open the windows and sprayed the water inside to put off the fire. Later, they lifted the shutters and struggled hard to control the fire till 1 am on Tuesday.
Initially, the police suspected that short-circuit as the reason for the fire mishap. However, they are probing into the possible ‘sabotage’ angle also. The police forces were seen guarding the incident spot at UBI branch since late night by deploying additional forces to protect evidences.
