HYDERABAD, JULY 02, 2024: As the new criminal laws came into force from July 1 onwards, the Prohibition and Excise department had registered first FIR under the new criminal law (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) against a two persons and seized 2.1kilograms of ganja under Medchal Excise police stations limits on Tuesday.
According to an official release here, excise district task force (DTF) have arrested Vijayalakshmi from Visakapatnam, who was smuggling and selling the ganja in Hyderabad and Sai Teja of Madugula village of Rangareddy district when they were transporting the contraband on a two-wheeler. On the intelligence reports, the excise personnel led by SI Pawan Kumar Reddy have launched the vehicle checking under the flyover between Fatehnagar and Balanagar road. The during the vehicle checking, they seized the contraband weighing 2.1 kilogrames and arrested the accused persons.
The Excise police registered the FIR under new criminal law under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. As per new law, they had videographed the entire proceedings, said CI NarsiReddy. Excise superintendent Sk Faziuddin and assistant ES Madhavaiah congratulated SI Pawan Kumar Reddy, constables Chennaiah, Jyothi, and Venkateshwar Rao.
