HYDERABAD, MAY 13, 2025: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, seized ‘Herbal Fever Guard Syrup,’ an Ayurvedic medicine, in Adilabad, for making a misleading advertisement claiming it treats ‘all types of fevers’.
Similarly, they raided a quack’s clinic in Ahmedipur Village, Gajwel Mandal, Siddipet District, and seized drugs illegally stocked for sale. Since January 2024, the DCA has registered cases against 161 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.
In a statement here on Thursday, the DCA officials stated that they had detected an ayurvedic medicine ‘Herbal Fever Guard Syrup,’ moving in the market with misleading claim on its labels that it treats ‘all types of fevers’, which is a contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
During the raid conducted on 14th May to detect medicines moving in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements, DCA officials detected ‘Herbal Fever Guard Syrup,’ The said ayurvedic medicine was detected by DCA officials at a medical store in Adilabad. Stocks were seized during the raid. Advertisement of a medicine for treatment of ‘Fevers, in general’ is prohibited under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. A. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Adilabad carried out the raid under the supervision of N. Narsaiah, Assistant Director, Nizamabad.
Seizure Conducted at a Quack’s Clinic in Ahmedipur Village, Gajwel Mandal, Siddipet District.
On credible information, Drugs Control Administration officials, on 14th May, 2025 raided the premises of a quack/unqualified practitioner K. Ramachandram, situated at Ahmedipur Village, Gajwel Mandal, Siddipet District, who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualifications at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 12 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, etc. stocked at the premises without a drug licence. Worth of the stock seized is Rs. 20,000/-.
DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Cefixime, Amoxycillin, etc, at the clinic during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of public, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. S. Vinay Sushmi, Drugs Inspector, Siddipet carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr. J. Raju, Assistant Director, Siddipet. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
DCA Director Shahnawaz Qasim said the public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
