JAGTIAL, FEBRUARY 04, 2026: The National Service Scheme (NSS) and Health Club of the Government Women’s Degree College in Jagtial conducted an awareness programme on cancer and its prevention on the occasion of World Cancer Day on Wednesday.
Awareness was given to the students about cancer on World Cancer Day. Students are apprised that World Cancer Day is an international day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. Cancer awareness has become exceedingly important.

As part of the programme, Dr C Padmini, President of the Jagtial Gynaecologists Association and a senior gynaecologist, stated that cancer can be prevented through proper treatment if it is detected in the early stages. She also explained that nearly nine types of cancers can be caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), and therefore, by taking the HPV vaccine, these nine types of cancers can be prevented.
Renowned gynaecologist Dr G Sreelatha explained when the HPV vaccine should be taken, which age group should take it, and how many doses are required, along with the benefits of the vaccine. She stated that cancer can be completely prevented by taking this vaccine.
As part of the campaign, the doctors interacted with students and highlighted the meaning of the care gap. They stated that in spite of advances in cancer treatment, not everyone can receive it and we can reduce the gap by providing better knowledge and equal health services to each patient. They enlightened them with different factors that negatively affect the care of cancer patients. They also highlighted the barriers that cancer patients face constantly at every turn of life and motivated the students to end discrimination against patients based on ethnicity, education, disability and lifestyle.
The programme was attended by NSS Programme Officers Sreelatha, N Sangeetha Rani, Sujatha, Health Club Coordinator G Neeraja, Vasavi, other faculty members, and students. On this occasion, they remarked that the primary goal of the day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer. Cancer prevention is action to lower the risk of getting cancer. This can include maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding exposure to known cancer causing substances and taking medicines or vaccines that can prevent cancer from developing.
