HYDERABAD, JULY 31, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements which claimed to treat Rheutamism, Epilipsy, cataract, glaucoma, diabetes and prostatic hypertrophy etc.
During a special raids conducted in different parts of the state on July 30 and 31, 2024, the DCA officials seized Panion Tablets, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Rheumatism’, Ashwagandharista Tonic, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Nervous debility, Insomnia, Loss of Memory, Epilepsy and Mania’, Sri Sri Tattva Mahatriphaladya Ghritam, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Cataract, Diseases of eye & Glaucoma’, Pallerukayalu Powder, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Diabetes’, and Proswin Tablets, a Unani medicine, claimed to treat ‘Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy’.
In a statement here on Wednesday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Advertising a medicine for the treatment of ‘Rheumatism’, ‘Nervous debility, Insomnia, Loss of Memory, Epilepsy and Mania’, ‘Cataract, Diseases of eye & Glaucoma’, ‘Diabetes’, ‘Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Ravikumar, Drugs Inspector, Balapur, G. Surender, Drugs Inspector, Suryapet, Ch. Swapna, Drugs Inspector, Jubilee Hills, M. Chandrasekhar, Drugs Inspector, Patancheru, J. Nagaraju, Drugs Inspector, Saroornagar are among the officers who carried out the raids. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.
The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
