HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 08, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration raided quacks clinics separately in Jeedimetla and Fatima nagar in and around Hyderabad city and seized drugs worth Rs 46,000 stocked for sale.
DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the officials raided premises of a quack T. Purushotham, who is running a clinic by name ‘Mourya Clinic’ at Subhashnagar, IDA Jeedimetla, Quthbullapur Mandal, claiming himself as a ‘Rural Medical Practitioner’ and detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale.
DCA officials seized 30 varieties of medicines including higher generation antibiotics, anti-fungal drugs, anti-ulcer drugs, anti-diabetics, analgesics etc. of total worth Rs. 40,000/-during the raid. M Vijay Gopal, Deputy Director, Quthbullapur, A. Saritha, Drugs Inspector, Jeedimetla, E. Thirupathi, Drugs Inspector, Quthbullapur are among the officers who carried out the raid. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
In another incident, the DCA officials raided the premises of a quack Adil Mohammed who is running a clinic without any qualifications at Fatima Nagar, Vattepally, Hyderabad and detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. DCA officials seized 15 varieties of drugs of total worth Rs. 6,000 during the raid.
During the raid, DCA officials detected medicines stocked for sale at the premises without any drug licence. 15 varieties of medicines including analgesics, IV fluids, anti asthmatic drugs etc., are found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 6,000/- during the raid. T. Rajamouli, Asst. Director, Hyderabad, B. Lakshmi, Drugs Inspector, Charminar, P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam and C. Vivekananda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Khairatabad are among the officers who carried out the raid.
Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons, who are stocking and selling drugs without a drug licence, are also punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act and stringent action shall be taken against such Wholesalers/Dealers. Wholesalers/Dealers shall mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug licence before supplying medicines to them.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana issues drug licences for stocking and selling of medicines as per the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking of drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under Drugs and Cosmetics Act with an imprisonment up to five years.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana has been constantly on the vigil and alert to detect unlicensed stocking and sale of medicines by quacks. Surprise checks are intensified on such unqualified persons who are carrying out stocking and sale of drugs without any drug licence.
