HANAMKONDA, NOVEMBER 02, 2026: Academicians, retired government officials and representatives of the Padmashali community have urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to recommend former Kakatiya University (KU), Warangal, Professor Gaddam Bhaskar for nomination to the Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) under the Governor’s quota.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister recently, they said Prof. Bhaskar’s nomination would provide representation to the Padmashali community from Backwards Classes (BC) and bring his experience in academics, administration and social welfare to the Legislature. Prof. Bhaskar, a retired Professor of Economics at KU, Warangal, has over 25 years of experience in teaching, research and public service. He served as Head of the Department of Economics and Coordinator of the University Grants Commission’s Special Assistance Programme (UGC-SAP). During his academic career, he published 51 research papers in journals of national and international repute and guided 17 PhD and nine M.Phil. scholars. He also organised several academic workshops, seminars and research programmes. The representatives said Prof. Bhaskar had served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to a former Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, gaining experience in legislative procedures, administration and public policy.
He is presently serving as General Secretary of the Organisation for Backwards Classes (OBC) and has been associated with movements concerning BC welfare and the issues faced by handloom weavers and marginalised communities. The representation also referred to his participation in academic and social programmes in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Sweden and Norway, as well as Telangana Formation Day celebrations organised by Telugu associations in the United States. The representatives said his experience in economics, legislative affairs and social welfare could contribute to discussions on education, rural development and the handloom sector in the Legislative Council. Among those supporting the representation were Kakatiya University former Registrar K. Purushotham, former Professor from the University of Delhi Dr Rajam and several retired academics and government employees. They appealed to the State government to consider his candidature while recommending nominations under the Governor’s quota.
