KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 20, 2026: Disregarding the Dasara festival, traders and farmers dumped leftover and unsold flowers on the roadside in various parts of Karimnagar town on Tuesday.
With the increase in marigold flower production and decline in demand, the farmers were forced to dump the unsold flowers on the roads.
Even as the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK claims to be using the unsold flowers to produce incense sticks (agarbathis), there is no such measures in any part of the town. Besides, the MCK authorities are not even removing the leftover flowers and other waste material dumped by the traders on the roads.
In order to prevent farmers producing flowers from throwing out the unsold flowers on the streets, it is time for the authorities concerned to open cold storage centres so that they can preserve the unsold flowers and stop the recurring loss.
It is the time for the government to open cold storage using the solar power technology to conserve power and help the farming community to store their produce including vegetables and flowers. The government has abundant land at the Agricultural Market Yard to open a cold storage to store the farmers’ produce and benefit the farmers as well as the consumers.
