KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 18, 2026: Even as the State Government has given a clarion call to the people and officials to use water judiciously and avoid wastage of water in the wake of the severe impact of El Nino, the district authorities seem to be reluctant to heed the call, as there is no check on wastage of water in Karimnagar town.
Shockingly, several gallons of water supplied by the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar to the newly inaugurated Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) Collectorate complex has been overflowing for several days due to the lethargy of the concerned officials.
Water wastage at the IDOC complex went unnoticed for several days; it was found that water was continually flowing down the nearby drainage.
People of the town, including morning walkers, who noticed the overflowing of municipal tap water into the IDOC sump, were displeased with the wastage of water. The municipal authorities were supplying water to the IDOC sump in a pipe measuring six inches, and the overflowing water is going into the drain for several days, 24×7, as there is no check or supervision.
While the state government has been appealing to all sections of people to conserve water and use it judiciously, the Karimnagar district authorities are lethargic to the call and wasting gallons of water into the drain.
“Water is becoming scarce in different parts of the country, and several cities and villages in the Telangana state are grappling with shortage of water and worried about the increasing demand in the ensuing summer season. But there is little check on wastage of water in Karimnagar due to the negligence of MCK authorities”, said a resident of Karimnagar town.
Expressing shock over the wastage of water, a visitor to the Registration office housed on the Collectorate premises said: “Wastage of water has gone unchecked. It must be stopped. This is the single most important thing for the entire humanity to do because water is an important resource”.
Besides, there are several leaking water pipes in various parts of the town, wasting precious water into the gutter. The water pipeline is leaking in Bhagathnagar locality near EBS function hall, near Godhamgadda water tank and other localities, but the MCK authorities are lethargic in responding and checking leakages. If the MCK checks for leakages in the pipelines in the entire Karimnagar town, it could check the wastage of water and conserve it for future requirements.
