KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 10, 2026: The Breast Cancer Awareness Programme organised by the JITS NSS Unit at Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Science (JITS), Karimnagar, was successfully conducted on Saturday, with the objective of creating awareness about breast cancer, its early detection, and the importance of timely medical care.
The programme featured an informative session by Dr. Sree Vamsee Chetana, DM Medical Oncology, Sagar Hospital and Cancer Care, Karimnagar. She highlighted the major risk factors, warning signs, preventive measures, and diagnostic procedures related to breast cancer. She emphasised the importance of recognising unusual changes in the breast, including lumps, changes in breast shape, nipple discharge, and skin abnormalities, and advised seeking timely medical consultation.
The resource person also explained the importance of mammography (breast X-ray) as an important screening tool for detecting breast abnormalities, along with breast ultrasound and diagnostic procedures such as biopsy, when recommended by a medical professional.

Chairman J. Sagar Rao expressed his keen interest in promoting health awareness among students and staff and emphasised the importance of creating a culture of preventive healthcare. He appreciated the initiative of the NSS Unit in organising programmes that encourage early awareness, timely medical consultation, and responsible health practices.
Secretary and Correspondent J. Sumith Sai, Principal Dr. T. Anil Kumar, and Dean Academics & Audit Dr. P. K. Vaishali appreciated the initiative and participated in the programme along with faculty members, NSS volunteers, students, and staff.
The participants were encouraged to undergo appropriate screening based on their age and individual risk factors, overcome fear and stigma, and spread awareness among their families and communities. The programme reinforced the message that early detection, timely diagnosis, and appropriate treatment can significantly improve treatment outcomes and save lives.
