Bathukamma – A Symbol of the Self-Respect of Telangana Women
JAGTIAL, OCTOBER 08, 2026: Bathukamma stands as a symbol of the self-respect, cultural identity and rich traditions of the women of Telangana, said Prof. K. Ramakrishna, Principal, Government Degree College for Women (Autonomous), Jagtial.
A grand pre-Bathukamma celebration was organised at the college under the aegis of the Women Empowerment Cell. Sameendla Vani, Chairperson, Jagtial Municipality, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while G. Srilatha, Secretary, CPDC, Government Degree College for Women (Autonomous), Jagtial, was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. K. Ramakrishna said that along with academic pursuits, students should also respect, preserve and celebrate Telangana’s rich culture and traditions. He stated that the Bathukamma festival symbolises the traditional lifestyle of Telangana women, their close bond with nature and the spirit of unity and togetherness.

The students participated enthusiastically in the celebrations, dressed in traditional attire and brought beautifully decorated Bathukammas adorned with colourful flowers. They celebrated the occasion by singing traditional Bathukamma songs and performing around the floral arrangements, creating a festive atmosphere on the college campus.
The Principal appreciated N. Vasavi, Convener, Women Empowerment Cell, and N. Sangeetha Rani, Staff Secretary, for organising the grand Bathukamma celebrations and creating an opportunity for students to understand, appreciate and celebrate Telangana’s rich cultural heritage.
Prof. T. Pramod Kumar, In-charge Principal; G. Chandraiah, Vice-Principal; Prof. V. Varaprasad; G. Ram Chandram, Academic Coordinator; G. Neeraja, TSKC Coordinator; D. Sujatha, NSS Programme Officer; S. Mallikarjun, Head, Department of History; G. Srilatha; Jamuna; and other faculty members participated in the programme.
A large number of teaching and non-teaching staff and students participated enthusiastically and contributed to the grand success of the Bathukamma celebrations.
