KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 17, 2026: International Microorganisms Day–2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at SRR Government Arts & Science College (Autonomous), Karimnagar, on Thursday, under the aegis of the Department of Microbiology and Health Care. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of microorganisms in human health, food, agriculture, industry and environmental sustainability.
College Principal Prof. K. Ramakrishna, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest, emphasised the indispensable role played by microorganisms in maintaining human health and ecological balance. He stated that microorganisms, though invisible to the naked eye, have a profound impact on everyday life and the well-being of society. He encouraged students to develop scientific curiosity, explore the beneficial applications of microorganisms and pursue research-oriented learning in the field.
Vice-Principals P. Nithin and T. Rajaiah, Controller of Examinations T Srinivas, K. Surender Reddy and IQAC Coordinator Harjoth Kaur, along with faculty members and students, attended the programme.
As part of the celebrations, 40 students participated in a poster exhibition, presenting creative and informative displays on microorganisms and their diverse applications. UG and PG students of Microbiology and Health Care actively participated in student seminars and quiz competitions, demonstrating their knowledge and scientific understanding.
Mrs. K. Geetharani, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, delivered a guest lecture and elaborated on the importance of microorganisms, their beneficial applications and their relevance to human health and the environment. The lecture provided students with valuable insights into the practical and scientific dimensions of microbiology.
A special Butter Milk Campaign was also organised as part of the programme, featuring different varieties of buttermilk and highlighting the importance of beneficial microorganisms in fermented food products and nutrition.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions, while participating students were also appreciated for their active involvement. Principal Prof. K. Ramakrishna congratulated the organising team— B. Satish Kumar, R. Radhakrishna, T. Latha, K. Veena and Mounika—for their efforts in making the programme successful.
The programme conveyed the message: “Tiny Lives – Big Impact on Human Health, Social Well-being and Environmental Protection.”
