CBC Organises Photo Exhibition as Part of Hyderabad Liberation Day Celebrations
HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 16, 2026: The history of the Hyderabad liberation struggle and the sacrifices made by several freedom fighters against the autocratic rule of the Nizam should be incorporated in textbooks, said former Governor of Haryana Shri Bandaru Dattatreya.
He said the Government of India’s official observance of Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17, commemorating the integration of Hyderabad State with India, was a welcome step. He also urged the State Government to officially observe the occasion.
As part of the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a two-day photo exhibition at Parade Ground, Secunderabad. The exhibition showcases the atrocities inflicted on the people of Hyderabad State, the role of freedom fighters in the struggle against the Nizam, and key events leading to the integration of Hyderabad State with India.
Shri Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated the exhibition as the Chief Guest on Wednesday and visited the exhibition along with Shri Eatala Rajender, Member of Parliament, Malkajgiri, and former MLC Shri Ramchander Rao. Appreciating the initiative, Shri Dattatreya said the exhibition highlights the history and sacrifices of those who fought for the liberation of Hyderabad. He said the exhibition should be visited by every student.
Recalling the struggle for the liberation of Hyderabad, Shri Dattatreya said that people from different castes and communities came together to fight against the oppressive rule of the Nizam. He said everyone should take pride in the history of the freedom fighters who fought against the suppression of the people’s way of life, language, culture and traditions during the Nizam’s rule.
Earlier, Shri Eatala Rajender, MP, Malkajgiri, recalled the atrocities committed during the Nizam’s rule, including imprisonment for raising the slogan of ‘Vande Mataram’ and instances of people being shot for hoisting the Tricolour. He said the freedom and dignity enjoyed by the people of Hyderabad today were made possible by numerous sacrifices. He emphasised the need to pass on this history of sacrifice to future generations and urged students and youth to remember the contributions and sacrifices of heroes such as Ramji Gond, Doddi Komuraiah and Chakali Ilamma.
Former MLC Shri Ramchander Rao said the present generation should be made aware of the history of Hyderabad’s liberation, the struggle against the Nizam, the role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the integration of Hyderabad State with India, and the surrender of the Nizam. He said history serves as the foundation for the future.
In her opening remarks, CBC & PIB Additional Director General Smt. Shruti Patil highlighted the significance and key features of the photo exhibition organised to familiarise the present generation with the history of Hyderabad Liberation Day.
Shri Sameer Nanda, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture; Shri Rajiv Kumar, Director, Ministry of Culture; former MLA Shri Chintala Ramchandra Reddy; Secunderabad Cantonment Board Member Smt. Bhanuka Narmada; and others were present on the occasion.
