RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, AUGUST 29, 2026: The Telugu Language Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women, located at Shatrajupalli, Vemulawada, under the joint auspices of the Department of Telugu and NSS, on Saturday.
The programme was organised with the objective of introducing students to the richness of the Telugu language, its glorious literary heritage, and the cultural traditions associated with it. Various competitions, including elocution, singing and dance performances, were conducted. Students participated enthusiastically and showcased their talent and creativity.
The birth anniversary of renowned Telugu writer, linguist and social visionary Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, observed on August 29, is celebrated as Telugu Language Day every year in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the Union Territory of Yanam.
The college Principal, Vice Principal and faculty members presented prizes to the students who excelled in the competitions and congratulated them. The Principal stated that such programmes play an important role in developing students’ interest and pride in the Telugu language while providing a platform to nurture their creativity and artistic talents.
Following the Telugu Language Day celebrations, Sports Day was also conducted with great enthusiasm on the college campus. Various sporting events were organised to promote sportsmanship, healthy competitive spirit, physical fitness and team spirit among the students. The students actively participated in the events and displayed their sporting abilities with great enthusiasm. Prizes were presented to the winners and they were congratulated for their achievements.
National Sports Day was celebrated to honour the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and promote physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and perseverance.
The programme was attended by College Principal P.S.R. Sharma, Vice Principal K. Lavanya, Academic Coordinator B. Sumalatha, Head of the Department of Telugu S. Sandhyarani, Telugu Lecturer and NSS Programme Officer V. Swapna, Staff Secretary G. Rajini, Physical Director C.H. Anusha, faculty members, NSS volunteers and students.
The celebrations of Telugu Language Day and Sports Day were successfully conducted, fostering a love for the Telugu language and cultural awareness among students while also promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness and health consciousness.
