KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 29, 2026: National Sports Day and Telugu Language Day were celebrated at Bhagavathi High School in Karimnagar town on Saturday through a vibrant morning assembly that highlighted the importance of sports and the Telugu language.
National Sports Day was celebrated to honour the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and promote physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and perseverance.
The birth anniversary of renowned Telugu writer, linguist and social visionary Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy, observed on August 29, is celebrated as Telugu Language Day every year in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the Union Territory of Yanam.
The students confidently conducted the assembly with inspiring thoughts, informative speeches and energetic performances. Through skits, rhythmic movements, and motivating messages, they beautifully conveyed the significance of sports in leading a healthy and balanced life.

School chairman B Ramana Rao addressed the gathering and encouraged the students to embrace sports as an essential part of their daily routine. He emphasised that sports play a vital role in building confidence, resilience, leadership qualities and a positive mindset from an early age.
The students presented colourful cultural programmes on the importance of sports and the Telugu language. School Director B Vijaya Lakshmi, Vice Principal Ram Mohan Rao and faculty members were also present.
