KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 25, 2026: Vivekananda Residential School (CBSE) in Karimnagar town celebrated Onam festival with great enthusiasm, traditional fervour and festive spirit, bringing together students and teachers to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Keralam state on Tuesday. The celebration beautifully reflected the values of unity, harmony, togetherness and cultural diversity.
The programme was organised by the school under the guidance of Principal and Keralite Dr. R. Retheesh, along with the teaching and non-teaching staffs. The school premises were beautifully decorated by teachers and students, creating a vibrant and welcoming festive ambience.
One of the major attractions of the celebration was the mega floral rangoli, ‘Athapookkalam,’ arranged with great creativity and enthusiasm by the teachers and students. The colourful floral arrangement added a spectacular traditional touch to the celebrations and became a visual highlight of the programme. The joint participation of students and teachers in preparing the Athapookkalam also reflected the spirit of teamwork, creativity and togetherness.
Adding colour and elegance to the occasion, teachers appeared in traditional Kerala attire, presenting a graceful picture of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. Teachers and staff participated enthusiastically in the celebrations, making the occasion lively and memorable. A special Kerala Thiruvathira dance performance by both Kerala and local teachers was one of the major highlights of the programme and received warm appreciation from everyone present.
The participation of teachers from different regions and backgrounds added a special significance to the celebration. The programme demonstrated how cultural traditions can be shared and appreciated beyond geographical boundaries, strengthening the bond of unity in diversity within the school community.
The primary school children also participated with great excitement and joy, adding a special charm to the celebrations. Their enthusiastic involvement made the occasion more colourful and meaningful and provided them with an opportunity to experience and appreciate the cultural traditions associated with Onam.
The celebration also served as an enriching cultural experience for the students. Through the Athapookkalam, traditional attire, dance and collective participation, students gained a deeper appreciation of Kerala’s cultural heritage while experiencing the joy of celebrating together as one school family. On the occasion, Chairman Dr. Polsani Sudhakar Rao and Director (Academics) Dr. T.
