Union Minister inaugurates new SSB buildings in Lucknow and lays foundation stones for several developmental works
LUCKNOW, AUGUST 21, 2026: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is doing commendable work in securing the nearly 2,450-km international borders between India and Nepal and India and Bhutan. He said it is encouraging that SSB is continuously working to modernise border management. He appreciated SSB for strengthening its operational capabilities by using modern technologies such as drones, CCTV surveillance systems, thermal imagers, night-vision devices, GPS-based patrolling, secure digital communication systems and GIS-based planning.
As part of his Uttar Pradesh visit on Friday, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar was given a guard of honour on his arrival at the SSB headquarters in Lucknow. He then went to the 4th Battalion of SSB at Mohanlalganj, Gomti Nagar, where he inaugurated the newly constructed jawans’ barracks, Subordinate Officers’ Mess and residential buildings. He also laid the foundation stones online for the construction of the Regional Headquarters, Training Centre and Joint Hospital in Gorakhpur, and the 22nd Battalion buildings in Maharajganj.

The Central Government has sanctioned ₹191.29 crore for these construction works. The funds will be used for jawans’ barracks, administrative and training buildings, a hospital, staff residential quarters, roads, sewage treatment plants (STPs), water tanks, boundary walls and other development works. SSB ADG Rekha Lohani, IGs Meenu Choudhary and Parul Jain, CPWD CE Himanshu Pandey, and other senior officials attended the programme along with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Mr Sanjay said: ‘Today’s inaugurations are a symbol of the Government of India’s commitment to the welfare of Central Armed Police Forces personnel and their families. We believe that it is the government’s responsibility to provide the families of jawans who protect the country’s borders with a safe, dignified and comfortable life. If a jawan does not have to worry about the safety, health and well-being of his family, he can focus completely on his responsibilities of border security and serving the nation’.
“When natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and landslides occur in the country, the role of uniformed security forces becomes very important. I am happy that 18 SSB relief and rescue teams are always ready to respond quickly during emergencies. It is highly commendable that SSB maintains regular contact with people living in border areas”, he stated.
“When we talk about the achievements of Sashastra Seema Bal, we cannot forget the brave jawans who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation. Since the establishment of SSB, 51 personnel have sacrificed their lives in border security and internal security operations. I pay my humble tributes to all these brave martyrs. I also express my deepest sympathy, respect and gratitude to their families. The nation will never forget the sacrifices of these brave jawans”, the Union Minister said.
