HYDERABAD, JULY 31, 2026: The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) (Divyangjan), under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), organised a series of activities in connection with Independence Day Celebrations–2026 under the theme “India Independence 1947–2047: The Spirit of Viksit Bharat” at its Headquarters, Regional Centres (RCs) and Composite Regional Centres (CRCs).
The celebrations commenced with the National Pledge, reading of the Preamble to the Constitution in Hindi and English, interpretation in Indian Sign Language (ISL), and an orientation session on the objectives of the programme. The inaugural programme was attended by the Director, Deputy Director (Administration) In-charge, faculty, staff, students, parents and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PwIDs).
Organised from 22 to 29 July 2026, the celebrations aimed to promote patriotism, constitutional values, accessibility, inclusion and active participation of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
The Institute conducted a range of activities, including essay writing, poster making and quiz competitions, an exhibition on assistive technologies and innovative rehabilitation products, a seminar/webinar on the Indian Freedom Movement and inclusive nation building, ISL-based patriotic programmes, accessibility awareness campaigns, and cultural performances by Divyang artists. The valedictory programme featured the National Song, motivational addresses by dignitaries, and prize distribution to winners of the various competitions.
Addressing the gathering, the Director, NIEPID, Dr. B.V. Ram Kumar, highlighted the Institute’s contributions to research, innovation and rehabilitation services under the Make in India initiative, and its efforts in developing innovative rehabilitation models towards building an inclusive and empowered nation. He also paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices secured India’s Independence.
The celebrations concluded with enthusiastic participation from staff, students, parents and Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming NIEPID’s commitment to the ideals of freedom, inclusion, accessibility and the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
