72% of SCCL Coal Currently Supplied to Telangana Power Stations. Enhanced Coal Supply Strategy to Meet Rising Demand under El Niño Conditions
SCCL CMD Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti Chairs Coordination Meeting with TGGENCO
HYDERABAD, JULY 17, 2026: To ensure uninterrupted power generation across Telangana, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is supplying adequate coal to all thermal power stations in the State. In view of the prevailing El Niño conditions, which have significantly increased electricity demand, SCCL Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti has directed officials to accord the highest priority to coal transportation and further enhance supplies to thermal power plants.
A coordination meeting through video conference was held on Friday between SCCL CMD Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti, and TGGENCO CMDÂ Dr. Harish, along with senior officials of both organisations, to review the current power demand, coal production, transportation and other related issues.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti, said that the rising electricity demand under the prevailing El Niño conditions requires close coordination between SCCL and TGGENCO to ensure adequate coal stocks at all thermal power stations in the State. He stated that special officers would be designated to closely monitor uninterrupted coal transportation and resolve operational issues on a priority basis.
Officials of SCCL’s Marketing Department informed the CMD that around 72% of the coal produced by SCCL is presently being supplied to TGGENCO thermal power stations, NTPC Ramagundam and the Singareni Thermal Power Plant. However, considering the increasing power demand and keeping the State’s interests foremost, the CMD directed that greater priority be given to meeting the coal requirements of Telangana’s thermal power stations and, if necessary, coal earmarked for supply to other States may be suitably reallocated.
The CMD further instructed officials of both organisations to continuously review the coal requirements of power stations and maintain close coordination on coal production, transportation, railway rake availability and road transport logistics to ensure seamless fuel supply.
He also directed General Managers of all SCCL Areas to take all necessary measures to prevent any disruption to coal production in opencast mines during the monsoon season. He stressed that coal production should not decline under any circumstances and that quality standards must be maintained without compromise.
Speaking during the video conference, TGGENCO CMD Dr. Harish reviewed the coal stock position at TGGENCO thermal power stations and emphasised that local senior officials should proactively resolve transportation bottlenecks to ensure uninterrupted coal movement.
The meeting was attended by SCCL Directors Sri L.V. Suryanarayana, Sri K. Venkateswarlu and Sri M. Tirumala Rao; Executive Director (Coal Movement) Sri B. Venkanna; GM (Coordination & Marketing) Sri T. Srinivas; General Managers of all SCCL Areas; TGGENCO Directors
Sri Nagya and Sri Rajasekhar; CEs Sri Bichanna, Sri Laxmaiah and Sri Sriprakash, along with other senior officials.
