RK Newtech, RK-6, JVR OC-II, Khairiguda and RG OC-I Recognised as 5-Star Mines
Mine’s Excelled in 50 Performance Parameters Across Seven Categories
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy Sri Bhatti Vikramarka Congratulates Singareni
HYDERABAD, JULY 10, 2026: Five mines of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) have been selected for the prestigious 5-Star Rating in the National Coal Mine Rating Programme conducted annually by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India.
According to the list released by the Ministry of Coal, RK Newtech and RK-6 mines of the Srirampur Area, JVR OC-II of the Sathupalli Area, Khairiguda Open Cast of the Bellampalli Area, and RG OC-I of the Ramagundam-III Area have been recognised as 5-Star-rated mines.
Out of 382 coal mines across the country that applied for the 5-Star Rating, only 50 mines were selected, of which five belong to SCCL, marking a significant achievement for the company.
Last year, four Singareni mines received the 5-Star Rating. This year, for the assessment year 2024-25, SCCL has achieved its highest-ever tally of five 5-Star rated mines, the best performance in the company’s history.
Congratulating the officers, employees, and workers of the award-winning mines, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy Sri Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu appreciated their outstanding performance and called upon other Singareni mines to emulate these best practices.
The Ministry of Coal conducts this annual programme through its subordinate office, the Coal Controller Organisation (CCO), to encourage excellence in coal mining. Mines are evaluated across seven major categories covering 50 performance parameters, including scientific mining practices, workers’ welfare, environmental protection, mine safety and development of nearby villages.
Every year, the Coal Controller Organisation invites coal mines across the country to participate in the 5-Star Rating programme. Government and private coal mining companies voluntarily undertake a self-evaluation of their mines based on the prescribed criteria and submit their applications.
The assessment primarily examines seven major areas, including scientific mining practices, efficient use of mining technology, financial performance of the mine, welfare measures for mine-affected communities and nearby villages, employee welfare, safety and occupational health measures, and environmental management initiatives. Mines securing more than 90 per cent marks across the 50 performance parameters are eligible for the 5-Star Rating.
Before awarding the rating, an expert team from the Coal Controller Organisation conducts an on-site inspection to verify the information submitted by the mine. Only after being fully satisfied with the compliance and actual performance are the mines awarded the prestigious 5-Star Rating.
The expert team of the Coal Controller Organisation recently carried out detailed inspections of the nominated Singareni mines and subsequently selected five mines for the 5-Star Rating.
Officials of the award-winning mines stated that these recognitions reflect SCCL’s commitment to operational excellence, safety, environmental protection and sustainable mining practices.
Seventeen More Mines Receive 4-Star Rating
Apart from the five 5-Star mines, 17 other Singareni mines secured the 4-Star Rating by scoring between 80 and 90 per cent. Although the 4-Star Rating does not carry an award, it recognises mines that have achieved a high standard of performance and narrowly missed the 5-Star benchmark by a small margin.
Deputy Chief Minister Congratulates Singareni
Deputy Chief Minister Sri Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated SCCL on five of its mines being recognised as 5-Star rated mines at the national level for their outstanding performance.
He appreciated the company management, officers and employees for effectively implementing best practices in discipline, mine safety, employee welfare and environmental protection while ensuring uninterrupted and safe coal production to meet the energy requirements of the State. He expressed confidence that many more Singareni mines would achieve the prestigious 5-Star Rating in the coming years through continued excellence in performance.
