Reducing Financial Stress and Improving Well-being
NEW DELHI, MARCH 04, 2026: Healthcare is not just about one-time treatment for a particular disease or a problem. But regular care of the individual and the family’s well-being within the household budget. Conditions like asthma, diabetes, and hypertension require not just one-time treatment, but continuous monitoring and dependable products, turning healthcare into a recurring expense that often weighs heavily on families.
This is where the product basket of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana brings a sense of reassurance. Today, the Janaushadhi product basket includes over 2,110 medicines, 315 medical devices, and consumables, covering major therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular diseases, oncology, anti-diabetic care, anti-infectives, anti-allergic, and gastro-intestinal treatments. More importantly, these medicines are priced 50% to 80% lower than leading branded alternatives, making essential medical care affordable and stress-free.
At these Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras, healthcare products are not just items on display; they are everyday lifelines. The electrical nebuliser machine offers immediate comfort and relief for someone struggling to breathe. While similar machines in the market may cost between ₹1,500 and ₹2,000, the Janaushadhi nebuliser is available at around ₹800. Similarly, glucometers are critical for diabetic patients and are offered at affordable rates, often bundled with test strips, helping reduce both immediate and recurring costs.
An affordable digital blood pressure monitor, often essential for elderly patients, reduces the need for frequent hospital visits. Available at much lower prices than the ₹1,800-₹2,500 market range, it ensures regular monitoring without financial stress.
Beyond these, smaller essentials like pregnancy test kits, nicotine gums, L.S. belts, and nutritional supplements complete the basket, each product catering to someone’s essential health care requirements. Together, these shelves of medicines and medical devices represent more than affordability; they represent change as generic products are becoming more accessible and acceptable.
Since September 2024, stocking by JAKs of 200 commonly used medicines, consisting of the 100 top-selling medicines in the scheme product basket and 100 fast-selling medicines in the market, has been incentivised, under which JAK owners are eligible for a monthly incentive based on the stocks that they maintain of these medicines. By making quality healthcare accessible and reducing out-of-pocket expenses, Janaushadhi Kendras are not just supporting treatment; they are easing lives, strengthening the foundation of affordable healthcare for every family.
