KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 30, 2026: Polling for the Telangana Bar Council elections is underway on Friday with a keen contest among 203 candidates, including 63 women. A large number of advocates turned out early, forming long queues at polling centres to exercise their franchise at the district court complex in Karimnagar town.
According to official sources, the Bar Council has 35,168 advocates on its rolls. Voters are electing 23 members to the Council, of which five seats are reserved for women. Karimnagar district alone has 1,233 eligible voters, with six candidates from the Karimnagar Bar Association in the race.

Among the prominent contenders is Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Legal Cell Chairman Ponnam Ashok Goud, who is vying for the post of Chairman of the Bar Council. In compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India, retired Andhra Pradesh High Court Judge Justice G. Yethirajulu has been appointed to oversee the conduct of the elections and ensure a smooth polling process.

From Karimnagar, the following candidates are contesting: Kasuganti Lakshman Kumar, Korvi Venugopal, Jupally Satyanarayana Rao, P. Rajkumar, Kanukula Sanjiva Reddy, and Pradeep Kumar Raju. Shailaja, a woman advocate from Godavarikhani, is also among the aspirants seeking to secure a seat in the Council.
Polling will continue until 5 pm today. The counting of votes is scheduled to begin on February 10. As the elections follow a preferential voting system, officials indicated that the counting process may extend for a couple of weeks before the final results are declared.
