WARANGAL, DECEMBER 31, 2025: Prof B. Suresh Lal was elected Joint Secretary of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) at VELS University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, during its 108th Annual Conference held on Dec 29, 2025. Prof. Lal will serve as joint secretary for a three-year term. As Joint Secretary, Prof Lal will address policy issues in the Indian Economy and advocate appropriate policies to achieve a Viksit Bharat by 2047, involving experts from economics and industry.
Prof Lal is presently the Head of the Department of Economics, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts, and Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education at Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana, India. Prof Lal, a scholar on Development Economics, Health Economics and Economics of Tribal Studies, has 29 years of experience in teaching and research. He serves as Editor of the International Journal of Environment and Development. He has to his credit 25 books and 135 articles in international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, besides five patents, guided 20 PhD scholars.

Prof Lal has held several key administrative positions at Kakatiya University, including Principal of University Campus College, Secretary of the University Sports Board, Coordinator of the University NSS Wing, Head of the Department of Economics, Chairman of the Board of Studies in Economics, and NSS Programme Officer. Prof. Lal was elected Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society UK, the International Academy of Social Sciences USA, and the International Society for Development and Sustainability Japan. He is a member of the editorial board of 45 International Journals. He is a Jury Member of the Global Undergraduate Awards – Ireland, a Member of the Executive Council (EC) of Kakatiya University, and a member of the Executive of the Indian Economic Association. He has visited 22 countries worldwide for academic assignments. Prof. Lal was honoured with 48 awards for his research excellence and community service including the Indira Gandhi National NSS Award conferred by the President of India (2014), the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the US President (2014), Bharat Shanti Dooth Award (2018), Teacher of Excellence Award (2020) by Govt. of Telangana, Rabindranath Tagore Literature Award (2023), Nelson Mandela International Excellence Award (2025) and Gandhi International Peace Award (2025).
