KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 29, 2024: An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Worker has died of sunstroke after travelling from village to village and conducting door to door survey for the district Leprosy survey and work stress on Thursday.
The ASHA worker Kavvampalli Rajeshwari was not keeping well on Thursday and she was rushed to hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. She hails from Nedunuru village of Thimmapur mandal. She is survived with an ailing husband and two children.
Telangana ASHA workers union (affiliated to CITU) district president Edla Ramesh and general secretary Marella Srilatha, Thimmapur ASHA workers union leaders Nayini Rajitha, Venkata Laxmi, Vijaya Swamy, Swetha, Rajitha, Anjali and others village and paid tributes to Rajeshwari.
Speaking on the occasion, the CITU leader Ramesh expressed concern over the pathetic living conditions of ASHA workers who do not get at least funeral expenses, health insurance and ex-gratia from the government when they were participating in the government programmes. He demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family and employment to a family member.
ASHA workers union general secretary Srilatha said that the ASHA workers were forced to work in odd weather conditions in name of various surveys and fail to provide any benefits and protection measures from the blistering heat wave conditions. Alleging that Rajeshwari died of sunstroke and work pressure, she said that the government was enforcing them to health department and other departments works. She demanded the government to fulfill the promises made to the ASHA workers.
