Singareni C&MD N Balram Speaks at the 38th Joint Consultative Committee Meeting
HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 12, 2025: Singareni Chairman and Managing Director N Balram stated that, unlike in the past, this year’s meeting with recognised and representative workers unions and officers’ associations was held peacefully and constructively, filled with dignified suggestions and discussions. He assured that all issues raised by the unions were thoroughly deliberated and would be addressed positively.
Speaking at the 38th Joint Consultative Committee meeting held on Tuesday at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, Mr Balram emphasised that medical attendance rules would be simplified as per union recommendations, and that promotions due to employees and officers would be processed without delay. In cases where charge sheets are issued, enquiries will be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
In this meeting, Union leaders, including Vasireddy Seetharamaiah and General Secretary Raj Kumar of the recognised Workers Union of Singareni Collieries Workers Union, INTUC General Secretary and State Minimum Wages Advisory Board Chairman Janak Prasad and Officers’ Association President Lakshmipathi Goud, raised several issues, to which C&MD Balram responded with clarity and commitment. He passionately outlined the company’s plans and growth strategies.
He acknowledged that the company missed opportunities in previous coal block auctions, but expressed confidence that Singareni would participate in the upcoming auction of over 100 coal blocks and secure at least 10 profitable blocks. He stressed the goal of transforming Singareni into a 100-million-ton coal production company and called for full cooperation from workers’ unions. He reiterated the importance of improving work culture, noting that the survival of the company depends on optimal utilisation of the full eight-hour shift by both workers and officers.
To remain competitive in the coal market and retain customers, Singareni recently reduced coal prices by a minimum amount of ₹1,000 and is focusing on quality enhancement. He emphasised the need for strong efforts in accident prevention and urged unions to contribute actively and raise awareness among workers.
Beyond coal, Singareni is pursuing multi-sector expansion. Sri Balram revealed that there is a growing demand for critical minerals, and the company has signed agreements with leading national research institutions for the exploration and production of these minerals.
Singareni Goes Global
Singareni Chairman and Managing Director Balram announced that Singareni is expanding operations to 10 states across India and planning ventures in five countries, including Chile, Argentina and Australia in the critical minerals sector. He shared that the company has successfully produced CO2 to methanol at its thermal power plant and is now entering the green hydrogen production space. A 500 MW pumped storage plant is also underway.
Additionally, a 2400 MW thermal power plant in Odisha is expected to generate annual profits of ₹1,500 crore. He highlighted that Singareni’s ₹1.25 crore accidental insurance scheme has become a national model, with directives from the Prime Minister’s Office for its implementation across other organisations. A positive decision regarding PRP (Performance Related Pay) for officers is also expected soon.
The meeting began with a welcome address by Director (Personnel) Gowtham Potru. Directors L.V. Suryanarayana, K. Venkateshwarlu and M. Tirumala Rao also spoke. GM (Coordination) T. Srinivas, GM (Personnel) IR&PM Kavita Nayudu and other corporate GMs were also present.
