PEDDAPALLI, SEPTEMBER 18, 2025: A team of officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday began its investigation into the brutal murder of lawyer couple Gattu Vaman Rao and PV Nagamani, which took place on February 17, 2021, on the Manthani-Peddapallai highway. The couple was returning from a court case in Manthani when their car was intercepted by assailants who killed them to death with knives.
It may be recalled that a two-judge bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice N Kotiswar Singh issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Rao’s father, Gattu Kishan Rao, seeking a CBI probe into the murder of his son and daughter-in-law on August 13, 2025. Seven people were arrested in connection with the case — Kunta Srinivas, Sevanthula Chiranjeevi, Akkapaka Kumar, Thulasigari Srinivas alias Bittu Srinu, Udari Laxman alias Lachaiah, Veldi Vasantha Rao and Kapu Anil. All are currently out on bail. The case is pending before the Peddapalli court.
The CBI officials visited the Gunjapadugu village in Manthani mandal and conducted an investigation. They also visited the Manthani court and interacted with Vaman Rao’s father Vishan Rao, his brother Chandrashekhar. They also visited the place where the murder took on the highway.
