Conducts intracranial stenting to remove blood clots in the brain in two patients
CAIMS is first hospital after Hyderabad to perform such rare surgeries
KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 04, 2025: Chalimeda Ananda Rao Institute of Medical Sciences (CAIMS) in Karimnagar Town has emerged as a ‘Stroke Hospital’ by treating patients with the state of the art equipment, laboratory and well-trained doctors at a an affordable cost when compared to corporate hospitals of Hyderabad.
Stated to be the first of its kind hospital treatment outside Hyderabad city, the CAIMS has performed two rare intracranial stentings to remove blood clots in the brain in two patients recently. The doctors have performed stenting on two patients P Sridhar from Kanagarthi of Odela mandal in Peddapallai district, and Devender from Ramagundam. The hospital had also set a record by performing more than 100 intra-arterial thrombolysis (which breaks up blood clots) successfully to remove paralysis among patients.
The department of Neurology at CAIMS has emerged as a state-of-the-art centre for treating patients with paralysis in the region, provided the patient is brought within 4 and a half hours of the golden hour. The hospital is performing digital subtraction Angiography, Mechanical Thrombectomy, Intra-arterial Thrombolysis, Extracranial ICA stenting, Intracranial ICA stenting and aneurysmal coiling. The paralytic patient would be cured at a lesser cost, ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to 2.5 lakh at CAIMS, when compared to more than Rs 15 lakhs in the Hyderabad corporate hospital.
Disclosing this to newsmen at CAIMS on Thursday, Dr Sanjaykumar V Kamnivar, International neurologist, Professor and HOD, Department of Neurology, CAIMS, said that initially stroke treatment for blockage was possible for only upto 4.5 hours. Now, the treatment can be done up to 12 hours. However, for the best treatment, one should reach the hospital as early as possible. He said two major problems in patients with stroke were narrowing of the brain blood vessels (stenosis) and rupture of brain blood vessels (aneurysmal rupture). With the latest technology, the narrowing of brain pipes could be treated with stenting, and rupture could be taken care of with coiling.
Explaining about the treatment of rare and first-of-its-kind intracranial stenting on two patients at CAIMS, Dr Sanjay stressed on the need for launching awareness programme to educate the importance of ‘golden hour’ to shift the patient affected by brain stroke to the hospital having neurology department and full-equipped facilities such as MRI scan, laboratories and other facilities immediately for quick recovery.
Discussing various risk factors and measures to prevent stroke in a day-to-day life. Dr Sanjay stressed upon increase chances of recurrent stroke in patients who have had one stroke and also increased risk in women and patients with poorly controlled diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases and obesity.
He also discussed the importance of the first few golden hours in the treatment of a brain attack, in which clot-dissolving injection treatment (thrombolysis) could be done. He informed that the patients affected with brain stroke should be rushed to CAIMS for the state-of-the-art treatment with precisely trained faculty 24×7 with facilities for complete evaluation and treatment. Hospital Director Surender Reddy, Dr Asif and others were also present.
