“We will consider the suggestions of trade unions to make Singareni an accident-free company” – CMD N. Balram
“Safety First… Safety Always… Safety Till the End…”
HYDERABAD, AUGUST 31, 2025: SCCL Chairman & Managing Director N. Balram has stated that robust measures will be taken to enhance safety in the mines and that the valuable suggestions made by trade unions would be duly considered and necessary steps taken immediately.
He was addressing officers of the Directorate General of Mines Safety, representatives of recognized and other trade unions, and SCCL officials at the 49th Safety Tripartite Review Meeting held on Sunday at MNR Gardens. The meeting was presided over by DGMS Director General Sri Ujjwal Tah. The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, the CMD said that the Singareni has already set an example in production, and it is equally the responsibility of all to shape SCCL into an accident-free company. He stressed that every worker’s life is precious, and strict measures will be implemented to prevent accidents before they occur. He urged workers to strictly follow safety norms along with management initiatives. Expressing concern that most accidents occur due to negligence and carelessness, he emphasized that the management would never pressure employees to work in unsafe conditions. At the same time, he advised everyone to realise that self-safety is of paramount importance.
He also assured that all facilities would be extended to women employees in the mines and that the company would take responsibility for their safety.
During the meeting, trade unions put forward several suggestions for improving safety in mines, including the supply of quality helmets and boots, the strengthening of medical facilities, better canteen amenities, the purchase of new machinery, modernisation, and the recruitment of required manpower. Recognised trade union leaders such as Vasireddy Sitaramaiah, President AITUC, Raj Kumar, General Secretary AITUC, Janak Prasad, General Secretary INTUC, and other leaders presented their views. Women employees also expressed their appreciation, stating that Singareni has been providing all necessary facilities for them to work underground.
On this occasion, DGMS Director General Ujjwal Tha, DGMS Deputy Director General T.R. Kannan, and other DGMS officials offered several safety-related suggestions applicable to all Singareni mines.
Later, SCCL Directors – D. Satyanarayana Rao (E&M), L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations), K. Venkateswarlu (Planning & Projects), and Goutham Potru, IAS (PA&W) – also addressed the gathering on strengthening safety measures. At the beginning of the meeting, homage was paid to the workers who lost their lives in recent mine accidents.
