
He is the first Indian origin to lead the World’s largest Physician organisation
NEW DELHI, JUNE 12, 2025: Indian origin Physician Dr Srinivas ‘Bobby’ Mukkamala has been elected as the 180th President of the American Medical Association (AMA).
Dr Srinivas, an otolaryngologist — an ear, nose, and throat specialist — took the oath on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), according to a statement by the association, has become the first person of Indian origin to lead the world’s largest physician organisation in its 178-year history.
Diagnosed just months ago with an 8-cm brain tumour, Dr. Mukkamala’s journey from patient to president inspires a renewed call for equity and compassion in US healthcare. “To call this moment humbling doesn’t capture it. It’s moving. It’s awe-inspiring,” he said at his inauguration in Chicago.
