Union Minister lays foundation stone for New Hostel Block at DCPW Centre in Karnataka
BENGALURU, JANUARY 04, 2025: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has stressed the need to introduce special training programmes on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, Internet of Things, Blockchain and Cybersecurity at the Regional police wireless training institutes across the country.
Mr Bandi Sanjay performed a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new hostel block at the DCPW’s Regional Police Wireless Training Institute (RPWTI) in Bengaluru on Saturday along with senior police officials. The event saw the participation of South Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya, DCPW Additional Director RK Verma, senior Home Ministry officials, and representatives from central security forces.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sanjay Kumar lauded the services provided by the Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless (DCPW) in strengthening the communication system. “It is a matter of pride to lay the foundation stone for the new student hostel block of the Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless (DCPW) under the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Regional Police Wireless Training Institute (RPWTI) in Bengaluru. Established in 1964, the DCPW is a crucial division of the Ministry of Home Affairs and a leader in police telecommunications across the country. Acting as a nodal agency between police, security forces, and disaster management agencies, the department has been providing seamless services efficiently. The commendable work of managing the interstate police wireless communication network round the clock between Delhi and the capitals of 33 states, ensuring the smooth operation of the police communication system, is highly appreciated”, he stated.
The Union Minister stressed the importance of further strengthening the communication system in the country to meet modern security demands. He emphasized the need for a robust, reliable, and advanced communication system to align with evolving technologies and address future challenges. Recognizing the growing importance of knowledge and technology, he highlighted the necessity of providing specialized training to central security and police forces to adopt and utilize new technological advancements.
Previously, training facilities for police personnel of various ranks from central, state, and union territories were available only at the Central Police Radio Training Institute (CPRTI) in New Delhi. However, regional police radio training institutes (RPWTIs) have now been established in Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, and Kolkata. Training programs are being conducted for police personnel of various ranks working in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep, which is a significant development.
The new hostel block is being constructed to provide better facilities for trainees. Minister Sanjay Kumar emphasized that RPWTI should offer specialized training programs on topics like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity within “Police Communications.” He urged prioritizing PPDR personnel (Public Protection and Disaster Relief) and enhancing their technical skills and personality development through collaborations with leading institutions.
The Union Minister also suggested that DCPW training institutes should aim to meet national standards comparable to civil service training institutes and work towards earning top-tier certifications of excellence soon.
