DCA registered cases against 135 quacks during this year
HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 22, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Muduchintalpally Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. This year, DCA registered cases against 135 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.
In another incident, the DCA officials seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements such as Sucramed (Sucralfate Oral Suspension), an Allopathic medicine, claimed to treat Ulcers of gastrointestinal tracts and LADY TONIC DS Uterine Tonic, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Disorders of menstrual flow’.
In an official release here on Sunday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the DCA officials, on Saturday, raided the premises of a quack A. Naveen Reddy, at Muduchintalpally Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, who was practising medicine without proper qualification at his clinic by the name ‘Swapna Clinic’. During the raid, DCA officials detected 38 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, antidiabetic drugs, antihypertensive drugs, etc. stocked on the premises without a drug licence. The officials seized the stock, which included Physician’s Samples from the possession of A. Swapna, W/o. A. Naveen Reddy. The medicines worth of the stock seized is Rs. 14,600. B. Praveen, Drugs Inspector, Shameerpet carried out the raid.
Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Ulcers of gastrointestinal tracts’ and ‘Disorders of menstrual flow’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Shabad and B. Mounika, Drugs Inspector, Medchal are among the officers who carried out the raids.
The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
